The term OMIAI is sometimes mistranslated as an “arranged marriage” but it can be described as a meeting opportunity with more serious considerations for the future.
OMIAI is a traditional practice where men and women are introduced to each other by family members or a leader in the community who act as mediators.
The potential couple would meet, see whether they were compatible and if they were, after a period of time, would be married.
Throughout Japanese history, OMIAI was quite a formal affair but in modern times it is organized by introduction agencies, like OZMATCH.
In Japan, every weekend, hundreds of OMIAI take place.

OZMATCH OMIAI 5 Steps
Step 1 Select an OMIAI partner
There are two ways to select an OMIAI partner. One, You select potential matches for yourself. The other, OZMATCH selects potential matches for you.
You select your ideal Japanese women
Read the profiles of Japanese female members carefully and select Japanese ladies who seem to fit your ideal Japanese partner. Then Report to OZMATCH.
We will contact the ones you have chosen and inform them that you have made an OMIAI request. We will tell them what you can offer that they can’t see in your profile and we will work to make sure you get positive responses from them.
This is because OZMATCH has interview you, consult with you, corresponded with you repeatedly and understood you.
This is exactly the kind of service that you cannot get from matching apps or online dating services.
If the replies from them are yes, it means that both parties have agreed to meet at the OMIAI session.
OZMATCH Selects your ideal Japanese women
OZMATCH will select and introduce you to Japanese female members who may be a good match for you. If you would like to meet them, we will contact them and inform them that you have made an OMIAI request.
From this point onwards, the process is the same as when you chose your potential match yourself.
Japanese women select you
There is another way in fact.
Sometimes our Japanese female members choose you instead of you choosing them and that is often the case. In this case, OZMATCH will request OMIAI with you on their behalf.
We will give you extra information that is not on their profiles and help you to make the right decision for you.
We also interviews, consults and communicates with our Japanese female members many times, so we know what they are like, their personalities and lifestyles that do not appear on their profiles.
Even if our Japanese female members offer you OMIAI, we will be honest with you if we think that they don’t match what you are looking for.
Having said that, there is a lot you can’t know until you meet them in person, so when you receive OMIAI requests, we recommend that you try to meet them at the OMIAI session.
Step 2 Setting the date, time and venue of the OMIAI
If both parties have agreed to meet, OZMATCH starts to organise OMIAI.
We ask both parties for convenient dates and times to OMIAI and then sets a date and time.
As 95% of OZMATCH OMIAI takes place online, the meeting place is the Zoom meeting room.
The man is asked to prepare the Zoom Meeting Room and send the link, ID and passcode to OZMATCH. We will give them to the Japanese lady.
If both live in the same city, we will ask the man to choose a nice café in the city. We will pass this on to the Japanese lady.
Step 3 Pre-OMIAI Consultations
Everyone is nervous on a first date.
Online OMIAI in particular is different from meeting a Japanese woman in a café, where you often make mistakes that you don’t realise.
But don’t worry.
Before your first OMIAI, OZMATCH will conduct a consultation with you and check in detail the audio, camera picture, lighting and background to make sure you look your best.
We will also give you advice on what kind of conversation you should have and how long you should talk for.

With these consultations and guidelines, your OMIAI with your ideal Japanese woman is sure to go smoothly.
Step 4 OMIAI Day
If the OMIAI takes place online, I will be present at the OMIAI for about five minutes from the start, introduce the two of you, ease your nervousness, and then I leave the room. Afterwards, you can enjoy a conversation with your OMIAI partner.
We recommend an OMIAI time of between one and two hours, but you can talk for more than two hours if the conversation flows.
However, it is advisable not to spend more than three hours talking on the first meeting. This is because Japanese women whose first language is not English will be exhausted after three hours of nervous conversation in English.
If the OMIAI takes place in a café, OZMATCH will not be present. You will meet at the meeting café and begin your conversation.
There is no time limit set, but you should be considerate enough to let her go home in the light of day.
Remember, Less is more.
Step 5 Tentative relationship
Within 24 hours of the meeting, both parties must report their feedback on the OMIAI to OZMATCH.
If both parties wish to meet again, the OMIAI is a success.
OzMatch will provide both parties with the other’s contact details (e-mail address, LINE ID, phone number) and from then on, the two parties can communicate freely without OzMatch’s permission.
This stage is called provisional dating or tentative relationship in OZMATCH. We will continue to support you to ensure that your tentative relationship runs smoothly.
During the tentative relationship, both parties can have another OMIAI or have a tentative relationship with another person, if you wish.
We encourage our members to have more options. but It is entirely up to you. If you don’t think it’s in your nature to talk to more than one woman, you don’t have to force yourself to meet more than one.
