Why do Japanese women seek encounters outside Japan?

Japan is a country that believes in skin whitening

I am Japanese, but my skin colour is a little darker than Japanese.

So, if I go to Thailand, I will be mistaken for Thai. If I go to the Philippines, I will be mistaken for a Filipino. If I go to Vietnam, I will be mistaken for Vietnamese.

In June and August, I was in Bali for eight weeks and many times I was mistaken for a Balinese.

When I go to any countries in SouthEast Asia, locals ask me for directions. I have to say, “I am Japanese”, but 90% of the time they don’t believe me. They think I am joking. I seem to have a very un-Japanese face and skin colour.

Japan, like Southeast Asia, is a country that believes in skin whitening. If you go to the cosmetics section of a department store or pharmacy, you will see the word ‘whitening’ displayed everywhere.

Everyone is keen to whiten their skin, and they take extra precautions against sunburn. That’s why Japanese women’s skin stays young and beautiful, though.

Tolerance of Japanese living only in a single ethnic group

As you know, Japan is a country with only one ethnic group, the Japanese. It is difficult to experience that there are many different skin colours, hair colours, cultures and ways of thinking in the world.

When TV commercials advertise ‘whitening’ and ‘whitening’, we think that’s all there is to it, that it’s a prerequisite for women.

When I was in Japan, I was ashamed that my skin colour was a bit darker than everyone else’s.

One man’s words erased my inferiority complex

I dated many Australian men while studying in Australia. I remember writing about this in another blog post.

During one of the dates, one Australian man looked at my skin and said, “What a beautiful golden honey colour.”
“Golden honey” How sweet !

My skin colour is not considered beautiful in Japan, but in Australia it is a golden honey colour. At that moment, with that single word, the complexion complex I had had since birth was 100% gone.

Live proudly with what you were born with

Japan is a country that tells you to show your individuality, but if you show your individuality, you will be criticised behind your back. This is probably because they feel uncomfortable and afraid of being different.

I am Japanese. I love Japan. But being a mono-ethnic country, I sometimes find it hard to live unless I think and look the same as everyone else.

“Why do Japanese women want to meet us abroad? “
I have been asked this question many times by men.
