Can’t speak fluent English doesn’t mean she is dumb

We are an Australian and Japanese matchmaking agency and we hold an online speed dating event to provide opportunities for men in Australia and Japanese women to meet.
One of our new Australian male members who want to meet Japanese ladies, asked me about our Speed Dating Event because he is interested in joining the next one.
“What about Japanese ladies who are not fluent in English?”
If he had asked me this question out of the blue, I probably would have been miffed.
It is because I myself am not very good at English, and that sometimes makes people think less of me and my abilities.
So when someone who can’t speak any other language except English discriminates or looks down on someone who can’t speak fluent English, that makes me sad and unhappy.
But this person who asked me “What about Japanese ladies who are not fluent in English” didn’t mean to be mean. He simply wanted to know ‘what if?’.
He said this as well:
“My Japanese is very limited also, but I am confident this will improve with a partner who is willing to speak Japanese for English and vice-versa.”
This is what I want to hear and this attitude will improve their relationship.
Both sides must approach each other
To demand that the other person come closer to you only, without trying to approach them yourself seems far from a happy relationship.
I am not only talking about the languages, but about everything. And I didn’t mean Australian men should speak Japanese if they want to meet Japanese women.
But if you start learning Japanese, it will definitely make your Japanese girlfriend/partner happier. Because she feels you are trying to come closer to her side.
Almost every day I talk or email to OzMatch Japanese female members and this topic comes up quite often. Japanese women are not expecting their future partner to speak fluent Japanese. They just want to see or feel how much he is willing to contribute to the relationship with a Japanese woman.
What if she can’t speak fluent English?
Let’s go back to the question.

Well, don’t worry. You will survive. My English is not good but my husband has survived being with me for the last 13 years. Your case, it is only 8 minutes. So you will be fine 🙂

What if your Japanese girlfriend can’t speak fluent English?
Well, you will be amazed how fast our Japanese female members learn English. I had a meetup with OzMatch exclusive couples the other night and one of our Australian male members mentioned how far his Japanese partner’s English has come. I could see how proud he is of her.
OzMatch Japanese women are brave and they shine!
I hope you will look at the brave side of our Japanese ladies, not their English level.
Some Japanese female members’ English is limited, but they are brave enough to show up with their limited English and try to communicate with you.
They are very nervous before the event and some start having a very bad headache or nausea, and some want to run away or disappear. But they never run away, they show up. And then they start shining during the event.
How many Australian men can do that?
So please admire OzMatch Japanese female members’ courage and enjoy talking with these brave Japanese women.
